Newton Iowa Speedway Website Information
Rusty Wallace has got to be proud of this racetrack and this website. I’ve been hearing a lot about the speedway lately, but I haven’t had an opportunity to make it there yet. I was trying to remember when I first learned that Newton, IA would be home to a 7/8 mile oval track to be built by the USMC (United States Motorsport Corporation). Evidently, that was more than two years ago…and the time has finally come. Less than a month ago the inaugural Iowa Corn Indy 250, IndyCar Series race took place in front of nearly 36,000 fans. In addition, the Iowa 100, Indy Pro Series race was held. Let the excitement begin!
The next best thing to checking out the Iowa Speedway, in my opinion, is taking a few laps around the IowaSpeedway.com website. So, let’s go for a ride. I assumed the web address would be IASpeedway.com or something similar, so I started by trying that in my address bar. Good guess I guess, as I landed on the site. After doing a little digging around, I soon discovered that the official website of the Iowa Speedway is actually IowaSpeedway.com though. This was the first mistake I noticed on the site (the first address should redirect to the official one) but it’s not something most people would notice (it just doesn’t help from a search engine marketing standpoint).
I really expected that I could purchase race tickets on the website, but when I clicked on Tickets, I learned that you have to order tickets by calling 641-791-810. I guess there’s a digit missing in that phone number, so I had to keep searching. While I’m not sure if you can buy tickets at this number, I did find another one listed as toll-free, 866-RUSTY-GO. Other options for getting tix are calling ticketmaster, going to a ticketmaster outlet location, or simply going to ticketmaster.com.
One thing I learned on the website was that this is the first ever, driver designed racetrack. Rusty Wallace’s resume was also impressive…including 55 NASCAR Winston (NEXTEL) cup victories, an IROC championship, an ASA championship, a USAC rookie of the year award in 1979, and much more. There were also some links on the site where you can purchase Iowa Speedway merchandise such as men’s and women’s clothing as well as novelty items. Again, this all takes places on another website…and I had to jump through an annoying Secure Connection Required page to get there…but, it worked.
I also found a nice photo gallery that included some pictures of a MOTO-ST race and the Rolex GT Series Race. Also, one area on the homepage that kept grabbing my attention was a live countdown, apparently to the next race (the Soy Biodiesel 225). As of right now, it’s 66 days away. Another banner that caught my eye was the View Live Track Cam. Unfortunately, after several attempts I wasn’t able to see anything….so maybe this only works during races and/or special events. There also was a link to some 2007 concerts where I learned that Poison, Ratt, Dokken, and Great White are coming to the speedway on August 4th. With tickets starting at only $30, that sounds like a fun show. There are also some concerts in September if you like country music.
Overall, I thought the website was well done. There are a few things I’d change, but it’s a great domain name and visitors should be able to get the information they need with only a few clicks. Have you been to the Iowa Speedway? Tell us about your experience!
