Des Moines Lofts and Condos Downtown are Hip!

If you’re searching for Des Moines lofts or Des Moines Condos, for rent or for sale, in the downtown area…join the crowd. I’ve noticed a big surge in the number of people looking for these types of properties, so I thought I’d review the search phrases, what they are finding, and what options are available (or in many cases, no longer available).

Here are some of the ways people are searching Google, Yahoo, MSN, etc…

des moines lofts
gateway lofts des moines
west end architectural salvage
condo or loft in des moines

des moines downtown lofts
downtown des moines condos
des moines loft rentals
east court lofts
park place condos in des moines
east village condos and lofts in des moines
lofts in des moines, ia

Anyway, you get the idea…and the list of related searches goes on and on. When I started to take a closer look at what people actually find for these types of searches, I noticed several listing on Craigslist as well as quite a few real estate agents who appear to be specializing in this market. Several of the websites mentioned the 10th Street lofts, soho lofts, vine street lofts, mulberry lofts, 418 Liberty condominiums, Park Place condos, and 111 city lofts - which also is a website at 111citylofts.com.

As I kept doing research, I ran across a great summary article on the dmcityview.com website, under a section called the condo & loft rental guide (seems they also publish the condo guide once in a while, but I may be mistaken on that). The address for the information is at http://www.dmcityview.com/lofts.shtml and I would recommend that you take the time to see what they have over there. Another site that might be useful is a blog at the focuses on downtown des moines, which you can read here.

So, assuming I was looking to rent a loft in downtown Des Moines, or say I wanted to buy a condo downtown…what might I find? Well…not too much. After 15 minutes of searching about a dozen or more results, I didn’t find any available properties, except those listed on des moines craigslist…and it’s difficult to know if those apartments, condos and lofts are even for sale/rent today. I did run across another interesting blog post on Juice, that included a good discussion about the high cost of these properties…so you might want to review this article by Mark Charter.

If you’re a real estate agent in Des Moines, or anyone who has some information about where to search for lofts or condos in the downtown area, please post a comment here to help out our readers. For those of you dreaming of owning or renting a property near Shermin Hill, or on Ingersoll Square…keep on searching and best of luck.
