The Jordan Creek Town Center in West Des Moines, IA is a 2 million square foot area that includes a two level shopping district with a cinema / movie theater, a village of specialty retailers surrounding the mall, and a lake district with bike trails, a hotel, waterfront restaurant dinning, an amphitheater and a boardwalk.  I live only a few miles from this mall, but I seldom get there.  About a week ago, I stopped in after a meeting to see what was new.

What I found most interesting about that trip was the that very few people were shopping at Jordan Creek on a Tuesday night.  I parked outside of Younkers, where I entered the mall…and I walked the entire lower level, stopping at Scheel’s, a couple of kiosks, GNC, and Dilliards.  From there I backtracked to Younker’s, which was around closing time (mall hours from Monday to Saturday are 10-9, and 11 to 6 on Sundays).  I would estimate that I saw fewer than 100 people shopping during that 30-45 minute time period.  I’m betting the weekends are a zoo!

 As of early July, 2007 - the Jordan Creek Mall website listed over 160 stores, restaurants and more in their directory.  Below is a rundown in alpabetical order.  (You will see that there are lots of places to shop in and around the Jordan Creek Town Center in West Des Moines.)

With all of these great destinations, I had to do a couple of quick searches to see how Jordan Creek’s web site ranked.  First try - Des Moines Mall (Google)….survey says, position 11.  Next try…Shopping Des Moines.  Oh no, the site is not listed within the first 100 results.  I thought the Jordan Creek TownCenter was the premier shopping area in the metro?  Looks like the marketing department has a little work to do online.
