Des Moines Golf Course Guide
If you live in Des Moines or central Iowa, and you play golf, it’s sometimes easy to get in the habit of playing the same 3 or 4 golf courses during the entire golf season. I remember reading somewhere that on a per capita basis, Iowa actually has more golf courses than almost any other state, and some of the best courses in Iowa are just a short drive from the metro.
This year, my goal is to play as many Des Moines public golf courses as I can, and I plan to sneak in a round at several of the top courses within an hour drive as well. Today in the Des Moines Register (print edition) I came across a list of metro-area public golf courses. Normally I cut this out and keep it at my office, but since I couldn’t find the same information on the Register website, I’ve decided to add some of it here.
In addition to listing these courses, I’d also like to add Des Moines golf course specials as I find them, and I encourage you to do the same. Since rates are constantly changing, please use this as a guide only. Many courses change green fees based on what time you tee off. Some also have discounted rates for juniors and seniors. Before you make any decisions based on the data below, please check the website or call the course to get update information and to schedule your tee time.

Here is one that just ended, but maybe they will replace it with something else. Last year Copper Creek offered some great golf specials all summer long, I think on Mondays.

In my opinion, the best golf course special posted in the Des Moines Register on 4/27 was the “happy days are here again” deals at Terrace Hills. Tomorrow is the last day for this one though, so let’s hope the sun comes out and the course dries out. 18 holes with cart for $17.50 or 9 with cart for $13.25.
