Des Moines Palmer’s Deli
I’ve only been to Palmer’s Deli about 10 times, but every time is great. The locations I’ve visited are in Urbandale and most recently in Ankeny (more locations for Palmers). On Friday, I ordered a Marshall Field (turkey, ham, bacon and more…on marble rye) and it was one of the best, if not the best deli sandwich I’ve ever had.
I did a quick search on Google today for “palmer’s deli des moines” and found their site in position 20…which is a really bad result for such a targeted search. Fortunately, three of their locations came up at the top of the page due to Google Local and Maps. The main reason Google doesn’t rank this site in the top organic position is because the homepage has no content that can be indexed by the search spiders. You can see what the spiders saw by following this link.
Not everyone in Des Moines has eaten at Palmer’s, and coming in a close second to such poor rankings for their company name is the fact that they rank so poorly for Des Moines Deli. I found them in position 90 on Google; that’s page 9 for most of us. For those of us who have been to Palmer’s, it would seem they should be ranked on page 1 and nothing less. Judging from what I found on their website, there are many other search phrases they could rank for…many of which would help them find new customers (including catering and their market items).
Regardless of the search results…I’m glad we have such a great place to eat in Des Moines, Urbandale, and Ankeny. I can’t wait for my next visit, and I hope I never hear, “No Soup For You!”.
