The 2008 Hy-Vee Triathlon starts today in West Des Moines.  It consists of a 40k bike ride, 10k run and 1,500 meter swim.  The swimming event was originally scheduled to take place at Gray’s Lake in Des Moines.  Due to the flooding, it was moved to Blue Heron Lake (that was only decided this week…as it too was originally flooded).  The elite athletes are scheduled to compete on Sunday.  Women start at 1:30 and men compete at 4:30.   The winners receive $700,000 for their efforts.  Makes me almost want to get out and start exercising..lol.

I looked at the map of the biking…looks like it goes around S. 35th St., Fuller Rd., George Mills Civic Pkwy. and E.P. True Pkwy.  The running event takes place around S. 35th St. and Fuller Rd.
