Des Moines Help Wanted Review

I mentioned in a previous post that I advertised on Craigs List (desmoines.craigslist.org) when I was looking for an employee last year.  While I interviewed a few of the applicants from that job posting, I actually looked at several other options and finally chose Des Moines Help Wanted . com (DesMoinesHelpWanted.com).  That online service is where I found my last employee, and I’d definitely use them again.

I visited their website again today to recall how their service worked and what I paid to post our SEO job opening.  I had used their 30 day offer, that allowed me to post one position/career opportunity using as many words as I wanted to describe it.  Within 2 weeks, I had received 14 resumes/cover letters, and I hired someone the next week.  I believe the 30 day rate was $299 at that time and it’s now only $318, which I think is a great deal compared to other options.  At the time of this post, there are 604 jobs available on this site, and over 3500 resumes - all less than 90 days old.

Speaking of options for posting and finding a new job or career in central Iowa, the other places I researched included the Des Moines Register, which is tied in with careerbuilder.  Posting a job opening on this site starts at $419.  A quick search of their database yielded 2,194 jobs within 30 miles of Des Moines.  I also remember checking out Yahoo! hotjobs.  A review of that site showed 303 job listings.  I clicked on several links to see what it costs to post a job here, but without an account I was unable to find their pricing options.  The last place I remember checking was Iowa Jobs (IowaJobs.org) which is part of Iowa Workforce Development.  Like Craigslist, this site lets you post job opportunities for free.  I’m not sure how accurate their 16,000 plus job openings figure is as I didn’t do many searches, but it appears to cover the entire state of Iowa.

So, where else do you turn when you’re looking for a job or career in the Des Moines metro?  And since I’ll be hiring again very soon…employers, what sites or newspapers are you using to find employees?
